Prerequisites |
To be admitted to the program, an applicant MUST have either (a) A minimum of honours (or 4-year degree), Postgraduate Diploma, Master's or MBA (excluding Master's in Development Finance) in Finance, Accounting Economics, banking or insurance. Full internationally recognised assessment-based membership of professional bodies in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Insurance or Economics (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, CFA, Chartered Banker, Actuary etc.) will also be considered.

Course Aims |
Students will develop the skills required for the analysis of emerging businesses. The course utilises theoretical and empirical tools to evaluate the impact of alternative decision-making techniques in small and micro enterprises.

Course Overview |
The course aims to address essential concepts of microenterprise finance by examining both institutional finance and finance as a structured approach to decision-making with specific reference to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The objective is to prepare students to take on roles in small business management, entrepreneurship, policy analysts and technical advisers of small enterprises. Students will have an appreciation of the broader context that underpins the field of microenterprise finance; understand how and why the formal credit market fails to meet the financial needs of the poor and small businesses; be knowledgeable about the challenges and controversies facing microenterprise finance, and be equipped with a framework to objectively examine and assess these issues.
